Volunteer - Compassionate Companions
CAREGIVER TEAM- COMPASSIONATE COMPANIONS

This team gives volunteers a chance to work directly with all the Goldens in the program, which is, of course, one of the most rewarding aspects of being involved with the Sanctuary & Center. You’ll be working alongside the staff to provide the daily care needed for the resident Goldens.

The Sanctuary & Center operates 24/7/365, in all kinds of weather conditions, and help is needed both during the week and on weekend. We typically need volunteers both AM and PM. Even if you can only provide partial assistance during those hours, we appreciate the help.

You will receive training prior to working with the Goldens and you will always have staff members available for guidance. The staff manages all shift activities, including volunteer oversight.

To participate on this team, you must be 18 years of age and physically able to handle large dogs.

Tasks may include:

All those noted above in the description of the One on One Golden Care Club
Washing food and water bowls
Preparation of nighttime snacks
Poop patrol
Assisting with facility clean-up at the end of the shift
Charting of all procedures and observations relating to the Goldens you care for
Volunteering on a regular schedule

Interacting with our Goldens is lots of fun, of course, but please keep in mind that many of our residents have minimal training or socialization skills and some may be cognitively challenged due to age or disease. Patience and understanding are important traits for our Compassionate Companions volunteers. Prior dog experience, such as ownership, is very helpful and desirable.

Volunteers on this team are an integral part of making the Sanctuary & Center successful and can make a big difference in the lives of all the Golden Residents.
